1Q.     What is glass etching?
1A.     Glass etching is the eating into or erosion of the surface of a piece of glass in selected areas to produce a desired design. This can be achieved by sandblasting or using etchall® etching creme or etchall® dip 'n etch.

2Q.     What kind of glass can I etch with etchall® etching creme and etchall® dip 'n etch?
2A.     You can etch clear or colored glass . . . from etching a design on the finest crystal or recyclable glass from your grocery store or garage sale. . . from personalizing drinking glasses to logos on store front windows . . . from matting the tiniest seed beads to decorating your sliding glass doors . . . from etching vehicle identification numbers on automobile windows to copying your wallpaper pattern on your mirror or ceramic tile. The possibilities are endless!

3Q.     Can I etch "Pyrex" glass with etchall® etching creme and etchall® dip 'n etch?
3A.     No, with a however! Pyrex is a borosilicate glass which is one of the hardest texture of glass made, therefore preventing etchall® to react. Now for the however - - - if you sandblast the Pyrex glass first, you can then use the etchall® products to give the Pyrex sandblasted surface that smooth even "fingerprint proof" finish.

4Q.     Is the etchall® etch permanent?
4A.     Yes, etchall® etching creme and etchall® dip 'n etch actually eat into the glass making it permanent. Therefore - - BE CAREFUL - - always cover all exposed areas you do not want etched. Once the glass surface is etched . . . the etchall® etch can not be removed.

5Q.     Can I etch mirror, glazed surfaces and porcelain as well as glass?
5A.     Yes. A mirror is glass with two coatings on the back. The first coating is usually a copper film, the second is a paint to keep the copper from tarnishing. You will be etching the glass surface of the mirror. etchall® will etch into the glazed surface on ceramics and porcelain leaving a decorative design.

6Q.     What is the difference between the etchall® etching creme and the etchall® dip 'n etch?
6A.     The etchall® etching creme is the consistency of hand cream whereas the etchall® dip 'n etch is the consistency of water.

7Q.     How do I know when to use etchall® etching creme and when to use the etchall® dip 'n etch?
7A.     Whenever you want a controlled etch or a design using a stencil, you use the thicker etchall® etching creme. When you want an over-all etch such as etching the stem of a wine glass or to etch an entire glass container you would use the etchall® dip 'n etch. Both etchall® products give a satin smooth, even finish.

8Q.     What do you mean when you say that the etchall® etching creme and etchall® dip 'n etch are re-usable?
8A.     After you etch your design or object, return your etchall® product back into its original bottle to be used again and again.

9Q.     How many times can I re-use the etchall® etching creme?
9A.     Many times! Example: you could etch at least (30) 3" x 3" stencils one at a time with a 4 oz. bottle of etchall® etching creme. Larger stencils would need a larger size bottle of etchall® etching creme. We recommend you replace etchall® etching creme every 6 months to one year. (If used commercially, you may have to replace more often.)

10Q.    How do I apply the etchall® etching creme?
10A.    Pour the etchall® etching creme on to the resist off to the side of your design. Using an etchall® squeegee, pull the creme over the design in one smooth motion and leave it for 15 minutes (see
instructions on using etchall® etching creme). Never use a brush. Brushing can cause streaks.

11Q.    What is an etching resist?
11A.    A resist for etchall® etching is anything that keeps the etchall® etching creme or etchall® dip 'n etch from touching any part of the glass surface you do not want etched. A resist can be etchall® etchmask paper, etchall® etchmask pre-cut stencils, etchall® transfer stencils, dried paint or glue and even the embossed image of a rubber stamp.

12Q.    Can I use etchall® etching creme to etch large areas like storefront windows, storm doors, or signs without streaking or blotches?
12A.    Yes! Due to the formulation and application of the etchall® etching creme you can leave the etching creme on your large area for 15 minutes to give a smooth white "fingerprint proof" finish. Also, etchall® etching creme does not weaken the etched glass in anyway that could cause breakage.

13Q.    What do you mean by "fingerprint proofing"?
13A.    B & B etching products give such a smooth satin finish that the finished surface can not pick up finger prints. Whether used plain or after sandblasting the results are the same. Many sandblast artists say they "dip and go" . . . the last thing they do is dip their sandblasted pieces in etchall® dip 'n etch . . . before their pieces go out the door for sale.

14Q.    How do I use the etchall® dip 'n etch?
14A.    Submerge object to be etched in a plastic container filled to proper measurement with etchall® dip 'n etch. Let stand 15 minutes (less time for glass beads), remove object, wash, dry and then pour etchall® dip 'n etch back into original bottle for re-use. (see
instructions on using etchall® dip 'n etch).

15Q.    Do the etchall® products have an odor?
15A.    No. The etchall® products are safe and ideal to be used in shop and school classrooms (sixth grade and up).

16Q.    Are there any special requirements to store my etchall® etching creme and etchall® dip 'n etch?
16A.    Always keep your etchall® products tightly closed and stored in 70 degree - 90 degree temperature. If the temperature drops below 70 degrees crystals may form in your etchall® etching creme and etchall® dip 'n etch. If this happens: Sit your bottle in a warm water bath . . . stir with a plastic utensil until crystals dissolve. If the temperature gets above 90 degrees the etchall® etching creme and etchall® dip 'n etch may darken in color, this in no way effects the usability of the products.

17Q.    Can I paint on the etched surface?
17A.    Yes, etchall® gives the "tooth" or texture that is needed to hold acrylic or oil paints on a glass surface. etchall® etching creme and etchall® dip 'n etch also give the texture to the glass surface to rubber stamp (permanent ink) and emboss on.

18Q.    Can I etch on a round surface?
18A.    Yes, apply your stencil just as you would on a flat surface. Just before pouring on etchall® etching creme, cut four strips of self adhesive paper and pinch the corners to form a well (dam/border) around your pattern (see instructions for etching rounded surfaces).

19Q.    Is it safe to eat or drink from an etchall® etched object?
19A.    Yes, once the glass has been etched and washed thoroughly it is safe to eat or drink from.

20Q.    Can you put an etchall® etched glass or plate in the dishwasher?
20A.    Yes, you can. The etchall® etching is permanent.
